At the end of 2017, I was hired by Spread Your Wings to help build the new Independent Living Services (ILS) program. I began with only 3 ILS clients who are still clients we work with to this day, and now our ILS clientele has grown to a family of 27 that are acquiring the knowledge and skills to live as independently as possible.

I am blessed to have a career that I genuinely enjoy, all the while being able to make a positive difference in our clients' lives is very rewarding. The sparkle in their eyes and smiles on their face after accomplishing something on their own is a truly unforgettable experience. I believe staying positive and motivating others is a compelling thing. I'm a firm believer in recognizing someone when they've worked hard to accomplish something no matter how big or small. It boosts their self-confidence, giving them the motivation to want to learn and do more.

Hi my name Maria Duarte, and I am an ILS Life Skills Coach for the ILS program with Spread Your Wings in Marina. While growing up I always had a tendency to help others of any and every caliber. I have done various jobs that have required me to work and help with various individuals of different status. Although, no job has given me such fulfillment like this job has. Seeing the excitement of the accomplishment in a clients face makes the work very rewarding. Even though we are here to help them, they are a constant reminder that nothing is impossible.
